The Fast and Loose con game was played in Shakespeare’s time, but it’s easy to learn by professional and hobbiest magicians. It’s also known as The Endless Chain.
Today, the “gambling” game is performed with a jewelry chain. The beauty of the chain elevates the performance and the best chain to use should have a confusing pattern for the chain turns and overlaps.
Search “fast and loose chain”, and look at the results. My chain, in gold or silver, has a tighter, more attractive pattern than the ones going for over $90 plus shipping.

Shown is the 18k gold plated stainless steel Fast and Loose chain. Indicate your preference. The standard loop is 60″ long. Below is my prototype at 60″ and another at 40″. 5″ x 11″ and 3.5″ x 7″. The 40″ works fine. Go with 60″ or 50″. The default is 60″.
The rope chain doesn’t make a clean “endless” chain. Shown in one of the photos is the alternative finished ends that work much better. The knots are finished with a jump ring that you can’t see.
The default length is about 60″. I made a smaller one 40″.
With the rope chain the finished ends are necessary to strength the joint. The chain is made up of tiny “key rings”. Just connecting the ends with the small links isn’t strong enough and it looks ragged.
Fast and Loose chains in stainless steel or 18k gold plated.
The larger gold Cuban style chain can be used for the routine, but the pattern is easier to follow. I’m showing it if you want a necklace with clasp made. 18″ to 24″. $18 to $20 including shipping. The rope chains can be made into necklaces or ankle bracelets. Specify length and gold or silver. Usually 8″ to 10″. $10 to $12 including shipping if ordered with something else.
